THE MALDIVES – The Quintessential Island Paradise

After visiting India or other Asian subcontinent destinations, reward yourself by luxuriating at one or more of the island resorts in The Maldives.  This is what my husband and I did and we were knocked out.  The Maldives is the most quintessential island paradise on Earth.

Where does the sea end and the sky start?  The beach at the bar aptly called “Blu” at the Four Seasons, Landaa Giraavaru.

Short hop for travelers in Southeast Asia, India or Dubai.  When you are on the other side of the world from the United States, the spectacular Maldives are easy to reach.  Take one of the many flights to Male and then take a boat or small seaplane to your island destination.

An archipelago of islands.  The Maldives is an archipelago consisting of over a thousand coral islands stretched out over 600 miles in the Indian Ocean.

The seaplane ride over the atolls provides beautiful views seen nowhere else.

Enjoy beaches like nowhere else on Earth.

After a beautiful day in the sun, enjoy dramatic sunsets.

Local culture.  We visited the town on the neighboring island, met locals, and saw their homes, shops, schools and daily life.  One of the joys of these islands is the local culture.  The Maldivians are justly proud of their island nation.  The local school we visited was both charming and clearly dedicated to serious learning.

Neatly dressed well-behaved school children.

Activities.

We went snorkeling and swam with turtles, millions of brilliantly colored fish and dolphins too. Other activities include:

  • Of course, the spectacular beaches and pools,

  • fishing excursions,

  • water skiing,

  • parasailing,

  • scuba diving (and diving classes)

  • hands-on educational classes (e.g. on the delicate eco-system, local flora and fauna, geology)

Where to stay

There are many gorgeous resorts of all sizes in the Maldives – from those occupying a whole island to luxurious little boutiques.  We can help you find the one just right for you.  Here is information on the ones we stayed at.

Four Seasons resort – your own island.  We stayed at both Four Season Kuda Huraa and Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru.  These resorts both occupy an entire island.  Because there were only a couple hundred guests at these island resorts, we often had one of the many beaches almost entirely to ourselves.  Each provided extravagant accommodations:

Private detached bungalow

Outdoor covered patio and lounge bed

Plunge pool

Direct beach access

Bicycles which are a fabulous way to get around the island resort

Four Seasons Maldives at Kuda Huraa: Sunset Beach Bungalow with Pool.

The oceanside pool, Four Seasons Maldives at Kuda Huraa.

Overwater spa bungalows at Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru.

Boat to the spa island at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa

Dining that is delicious and fun.  A variety of restaurants are provided featuring seafood, Asian, French,  American and even Middle Eastern food.

Dinner alfresco at Blu.
